Black Panther - Event Cinemas Pac Fair

Check out Stevie's review below on Black Panther.

The next addition in the MCU, comes a character from the fictional African nation of Wakanda. Black Panther is a fine entry for Marvel, but a forgettable one.

Ryan Coogler is in the directors & writers chair for this huge 2018 blockbuster. Not his best work after ‘Fruitvale Station’ or ‘Creed’ but still enjoyable.  He teams up with Michael B Jordan once again for this flick, who also delivers an A+ performance.

If you’re a Marvel freak you would have already seen this, but even if you’re not it’s a decent flick to pass the time if there is nothing else to watch.

Everyone has been raving about this movie, but for me it just didn’t wow me like some of the other MCU movies.

Giving it 3/5.

Not a bad flick but also not amazing.

I went into this wanting a movie where I didn’t have to think too much and it delivered on those levels.

The story and action isn't on the 'Hunger Games' level, but most of the actors  deliver decent performances.

The CGI is on point, the world building is great and I kind of feel like 'Fast & Furious' meets 'Mad Max' meets 'Zombies'.

If you’re into these teen pics, go check it out, like I said it wasn't bad, just forgettable.

Giving it 3/5.

THIS WEEKS MOVIE:

Blade Runner 2049 - Event Cinemas VMAX Pacific Fair

Denis Villeneuve absolutely nailed this film. I only discovered Denis about 5 years ago and already he has directed some of my favourite films of all time.

Starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Dave Bautista, Robin Wright & Jared Leto Blade Runner 2049 has cast this movie perfectly.

I’m not going to give much away apart from the points you need to know.
This sequel to the 1982 Sci-fi classic is so beautifully shot & directed that you will sometimes forget it goes for nearly 3 hours. The soundtrack was done by Hans Zimmer & Benjamin Wallfisch and is so immersive and that it feels like you’re there.

Now if you know what blade runner is about you probably would have already seen this film, if not, watch the 2007 final cut version of the original at home and get your ass to the cinemas ASAP. You don’t need to watch the original but it would help with some areas of the film.

Now the only thing that I can say you might not be prepared for is the runtime and the slow burn. This film is LONG but a fantastic story and twist which leads to an great pay off.

Giving 5/5 (might be biased here as i'm a massive fan)

THIS WEEKS MOVIE:

Thor: Ragnarok - Event Cinemas VMAX Pacific Fair

Wow what a fantastic film! Even if you’re not a comic book movie fan this film ticked the “blockbuster” list. Very funny, well scripted,  great acting, beautiful directing & a good story fitting into the MCU and more.

New Zealand director Taika Waititi, really lifted the bar this year with the latest Thor.  Some fans have said that its not a Thor film, and its too much of a comedy, but I think MCU has gone the right way to make GOTG and Thor fun comedies.

At the helm of this blockbuster is a all star cast including Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum & Mark Ruffalo.

Giving it 5/5.

What a fun & fantastic film!

Borrowing a few ideas from the original and reworking it for the 2018! Jumanji was very funny, well scripted, decent story and great acting from Jack Black, The Rock and even Kevin Hart.

Don't go in expecting this to be a anything like the original, it's in a league of its own while still having a few throwbacks to the movie a lot of us grew up on.

Giving it 3.5/5.

Justice League - Event Cinemas VMAX Pacific Fair

After reading a few reviews I walked into this film with very low expectations. I took my brother who is not a massive movie lover or anything fantasy/comic book for that matter.

Let’s start by saying I love DC, love the Batman/Bruce Wayne character, LOVED Wonder Woman. I think Bens Batman is fantastic and the chemistry between him and the other characters is A+.

With Zack Snyder (with reshoots Joss Whedon) in the directors chair the film has some beautiful shot and some great cinematography. The only problem is you can tell the last few DC films are already starting to fell the same which will become a problem. I’m happy Zack has stepped down and won’t direct any more DC films though.

In the end I enjoyed the film, but it was forgettable, so view at your own risk.

Giving it 3/5

‘Logan Lucky’ Movie Review – Event Cinemas VMAX Pacific Fair

What a fantastic film! Steven Soderbergh nailed this project through and through. Don’t go in expecting a down south oceans 11 either, it’s a very slow film with decent build up and pay off.

With Steven behind the boss’s seat you can really feel his touch of direction with big names Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig, Adam Driver, Katie Holmes & Sebastian Stan.

Only faults I personally found in this film was the soundtrack, I feel parts of it could have really been lifted with certain songs or scores.

Have seen this movie 3 times already! Christopher Nolan really is one of the great directors in recent times.

I’m not going to give much away apart from the points you need to know. WWII epic, no center character, literally NO CGI, fantastic realistic action.

GO SEE THIS! The only thing I can fault on it is that it’s a little too loud in some parts .

Wonder Woman Movie Review

Wonder Woman Movie Review – Event Cinemas Robina

Going into this movie with the disappointment of Batman V Superman I didn’t hold high hopes for this premiere.

It is much much better although at 2 hours and 21 miuntes long I could cut at least an hour off this movie and still have the same result. In saying that it seemed to miss and jump a lot of scenes leaving a couple of unanswered questions.

The last hour is amazing and what brings this movie back to life. It has action, a big story, gods fighting and a whole lot of Gal Gadot being a badass Wonder Woman. So I can't write it off, it has a great story and holds to it strong. Also brings back my faith in DC movies.

If you’re a DC fan you will pick up the extra characters and small easter eggs. If you’re a regular movie viewer you are still going to enjoy it. Its going to be what you expect without jumping any new hurdles or being ‘edgy’.

For sure go and watch it just don’t expect a 5 star review.

King Arthur

‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ Movie Review – Event Cinemas Pacific Fair

After reading a few reviews I walked into this film with very low expectations. I took my brother who is not a massive movie lover or anything fantasy for that matter.

After about the first 30 minutes this film really kicked into action. I really enjoyed the style, directing, story, effects and the acting. I know this film wont win any awards but it was actually pretty damn good!

With Guy Ritchie behind the directors seat it feels like a medieval version of Sherlock Holmes. Guy pulled in some big names for this one with Jude Law, Eric Bana, Djimon Hounsou & Charlie Hunnam.

There is only one thing I can fault in this film is some of the casting. It feels like Guy has taken actors from Lock Stock & Snatch and put them in medieval times..

As one user said on reddit.. King Arthur:Legend of the Sword init?

John Wick: Chapter 2

‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ Movie Review – Event Cinemas VMAX Pacific Fair

WOW WOW WOW! Man I’ve been waiting for this for months now!

John Wick is one of my favorite true action films in the last 10 years, and to get a sequel that’s equal or maybe even better than the first has just put the nail on the coffin for best pure action franchise in the last 10 years.

This film might not be for everyone with its amazingly choreographed action scenes with brutal real life gun play, martial arts and various other killings. What makes the film maybe better than the first is the world building, from the underground mafias and assassins of the shady hit man world.

If you don’t mind the up front action and blood please do yourself a favour and watch the first one tonight at home tonight, then book tickets to see Chapter 2 ASAP!
